IELTS Tips and Strategies

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language. This includes countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.

Your ability to listen, read, write and speak in English will be assessed during the test. IELTS is graded on a scale of 1-9.

Listening:

1) Make sure you infer the sentence correctly.

Ex: Many of the times in MCQ they speak all the options but you have to look for the option in which both the persons mentioned in the question agree.

2) Make sure to practice map questions as much as possible. Most students find this difficult.

Tip: Mark all the directions in advance and circle the places, move your pencil along the directions given simultaneously.

3) This part is the easiest and you can score up to 8 bands to compensate for other modules.

Writing:

1) Make a boilerplate for the introduction in advance so that you spend most of the time hitting the content.

2) Try to use at least 7 linking words:

Firstly, Secondly, However, Not Only But Also, Additionally, On the flip side, To recapitulate, In my perspective...

3) For part 1 :

Avoid plaintive texts. Include words like :

-- climbed to 90%

-- decreased dramatically, etc

4) Divide your time accordingly cause I faced time management issues in this part

Reading:

1) Never make assumptions in any case.

2) Practice True, False and not given questions thoroughly

3) You will not be given extra time to transfer your answers to the sheet, so manage the time accordingly.

Speaking:

1) Try to speak fluently without breaks.

2) Make sure to include rich words in your vocab

3) If the examiner repeats the question then it means they are rooting for a different answer.

These were a few tips based on my learning and test experience.

Hope this helps.
